This myth talks about the first mummification and resurrection. Isis took exceptional measures in order to retrieve and resurrect the body of her dead husband to bring it to Egypt from Byblos or Lebanon to bury him correctly. When Isis’s evil brother Set discovered that Iris was planning on bringing Osiris back, he chopped Osiris up into 13 pieces an spread the pieces around Egypt. In order for Isis to bring Osiris to life, she had to find all the pieces and put him back together and use her magic to resurrect him. After doing this, Osiris resurrects and becomes god of the Netherworld.
This myth lead to another myth told during the middle kingdom (2055-1650 B.C.), the idea of going into the netherworld and joining Osiris was possible. It then became the dream of every Egyptian to die and resurrect into the Netherworld and it became one of the most powerful ideas in Egyptian religion and to praying for immortality.
